

Left to cherish her memory are her three sons: David L. Helen will be remembered for her sweet smile, and her loving and kind heart. She also loved baking, always making sweet treats for her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her vegetables and flowers every year. A big sports fan, Helen loved rooting on her beloved Pleasant Spartans, OSU Buckeyes, and Cincinnati Reds. They also enjoyed many trips to Florida together, and regularly visited Amish country often trying to catch barn raisings. Over the years, they visited most of the 50 states, bringing home a collector’s plate from each state, and they had a memorable Alaskan cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. As their family spread out across the country, Helen and Don then took up traveling to visit and spend time with her sons, grandchildren, and extended family. She was a member of the church’s Deborah Circle, their sewing group, and she always volunteered to help or cook something for any occasion at the church. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waldo, rarely missing any Sunday at church or any church activity. Dedicated to her church and church family, Helen faithfully attended St. She truly loved being around the children and her co-workers at the school.

She worked in the Pleasant Local Schools Elementary cafeteria as a cook, for twenty plus years. She stayed at home, until her boys were in school, and then she followed them to school too. A loving homemaker, Helen took pride in caring for her husband and three sons. Don preceded her in death on October 18, 2011. They were blessed to share 58 years of marriage, and raised three sons: David, Mark, and Thomas. The next year they built their family home on her parents’ farm. She was united in marriage to Donald Richard Schrote on November 9, 1952, at the former St.

Helen graduated from Pleasant High School in the class of 1946. Her family settled in Marion County in the 1830’s and is listed as one of the first families of Marion County. She overcame all odds living an amazing 94 years of life. She was youngest of three daughters of the late Albert George and Hilda Magdeline (Rengert) Yeager, and they had her baptized when she was only three days old, expecting her not to survive her infancy. On December 28, 1928, Helen was born at home on the family farm in Pleasant Township, in Marion, Ohio, where she would live for her entire life. Schrote, age 94, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at home surrounded by her three sons and family following a steady decline in her health.
